Tens of thousands of wading birds and waterfowl arrive in the Autumn and spend their winters in Chichester Harbour. We offer specialist nature and birdwatching trips during this time to observe the beautiful birds in their natural habitats. Trip times are planned according to tidal conditions in conjunction with our nature experts to offer the best viewing opportunities. The boat virtually silently glides through the water offering a quiet and peaceful way to observe the birds with minimal disturbance. You may be lucky enough to see other harbour wildlife whilst aboard (seals and even dolphins have been spotted in Itchenor reach! However if you particularly want to see seals, we recommend one of our Seal Safari trips). A local bird/nature expert will be on board all trips to share key facts and point out internationally protected species. The boat is open-sided with superb panoramic harbour views providing a wonderful way to connect with nature and reap the well-being benefits of being in this beautiful harbour landscape. There is a large, stable deck and freedom to move around once the trip is underway.

About the birds of Chichester Harbour
Chichester Harbour is a very special area for birds, especially for Dark-Bellied Brent Geese, Black-tailed Godwit, Grey Plover and breeding Terns.
Around 40,000- 50,000 birds spend the winter here, feeding on the mudflats and saltmarshes. As a large tidal estuary Chichester Harbour offers a range of habitats including freshwater, woodlands, reedbeds, lagoons, wet grassland and arable farmland. Sadly human disturbance and tidal flooding is putting pressure on some of the breeding sites for terns, gulls and waders, so work to conserve and protect this important space continues.
